Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about PixLate. Can't find what you're looking for? Contact us.
What file formats does PixLate support?
PixLate supports image-based PDFs plus common image formats such as JPEG and PNG. It works best when text is part of the image itself, not plain text-heavy documents.
How accurate is the AI translation?
PixLate uses AI translation, OCR, and image cleanup to get you close quickly, but the product is built around review and correction. Results vary by page quality and layout, which is why the editor keeps the output editable before export.
Can I edit translations before exporting?
Yes! The Editor mode provides full control over translations. You can review, edit, and fine-tune any text before final export.
Where are my files stored?
Projects and saved files stay on your device by default. In the browser, PixLate uses local folders or browser-local storage. In the desktop app, projects live in local app storage. When you run AI cleanup or translation, the page image is sent securely for processing.
Which browsers support project folders?
Folder-backed browser projects work best in Chrome and Edge. Safari and Firefox can still use Local Session, but for durable project storage we recommend Chrome, Edge, or the desktop app.
What languages are supported?
PixLate supports 100+ languages including Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Hindi, Bengali, Spanish, French, German, Arabic, and many more South Asian, East Asian, European, African, and Pacific languages.
How does layout preservation work?
PixLate combines page-aware AI with an editor workflow. It analyzes the page structure, restores background areas, renders translated text back into the layout, and then lets you review and correct the result before export.
Why not just do this in chat?
Chat works for quick experiments, but iterative image editing gets expensive fast. If the result is close but wrong, PixLate gives you a place to review, correct, and rerun without starting from scratch each time.
What are the pricing plans?
PixLate uses a pay-as-you-go credit system with no subscription required. New accounts start with 5 cleanup pages and 5 translation pages, then you can buy credits when you need more.
How do I get started?
Open the Editor, import an image or image-based PDF, choose a target language, and run cleanup or translation. If the first result is close but not final, you can correct it before export.
